Challenge Finder is pleased to be working with Scotland’s leading adventure sports company No Fuss to bring you two awesome trail events in 2018. If you’re a runner with a penchant for the scenic outdoors, secluded routes, hilly trails and unicorns (Yes, unicorns! that’s Scotland’s national animal) then read on…
The Cowal Way Ultra and Trail
14th July 2018 // Ultra: 30 miles (48k) // Trail: 18 miles (30k) // from £35.00 pp
Here’s one for the weekend warriors! Whether you go all in for the 30-mile ultra or take it easier on yourself with the 18-mile trail, you’re guaranteed a solid run for your money.
With over 900m of ascent, expect forest paths, tricky turns and rocky bits, and also some of the best scenery Scotland has to offer.
Although both testing routes you’ll be well catered for throughout. Courses are fully marked and marshalled with full medical backup. The races are timed and there’s bag transfers between support stations, so you can carry additional supplies without the extra load. And if that wasn’t enough all participants get themed T-shirts, goody bags and hot food included in the entry. Want that T-shirt?
Ultra Marathon De Ben Nevis
22 September 2018 // 40 miles (64k) // £50.00 pp
Here’s the ultimate mountain running event for the adventurous endurance athlete! Starting and finishing at Fort William in Lochaber, you’ll have the opportunity to circumnavigate the tallest mountain in the British Isles across a fully marked, chip-timed 40-mile route.
Expect long periods of ‘alone time’, river and stream crossings and some pretty steep climbs and descents. Strong hamstrings will come in handy here! Don’t worry though, there’s also feeding stations, marshalls and immaculate health and safety measures in place so you’ll feel well looked after throughout.
This one calls out to the solitary runner, with a preference for early mornings (5am start – 5:30 am cut off!) and a taste for nature. Is that you?
These guys came onto the adventure scene in 2005 and with their HQ in the outdoor capital of the UK Lochaber, founders Frazer and David certainly know a thing or two about putting on a good challenge. As the name suggests, the ethos behind Frazer and Dave’s events is ‘no fuss.’
Expect a unique mix of fun, relaxed atmospheres (you get penalties for taking things too seriously) with tough endurance. Combine this with the organisers’ impeccable customer service and attention to detail when it comes to health and safety, and you get the best possible way to experience the highlands in all their challenging glory!
