We asked our members to share their own individual tips for newbie obstacle racers. Here are our top ten.
Tip 1 – Do it with friends. The teamwork element really makes it special.
Tip 2 – Don’t wear elastic laces – ever!
Tip 3 – Calf/shin guards, cheap bit of kit but will give you extra warmth and help keep the cuts and bruises to a minimum.
Tip 4 – Wear kit you don’t mind being able to throw away.
Tip 5 – Wear gloves and long sleeved garments to stop cuts and bruises.
Tip 6 – Don’t tip toe around mud and water. It’s coming, so embrace it and enjoy it. Mindset is everything.
Tip 7 – Don’t think about the obstacle before you or you’ll chicken out, just go for it.
Tip 8 – Don’t be afraid to ask for help – obstacle racers are a friendly bunch.
Tip 9 – Keep moving – you will warm up and this is the quickest way.
Tip 10 – Have a towel and a spare set of clothes ready to change in to post-race! There will be no showers.
